Liverpool’s win at Manchester United on Sunday saw Virgil van Dijk rack up another victory in his 200th Premier League game for the Merseyside club.

Liverpool’s 3-0 win against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday was a big one for new head coach Arne Slot.

He became the first Liverpool manager to win his first match against Manchester United since Bob Paisley, and it saw the Reds make a real statement as they swept their hosts aside with relative ease thanks to Luis Díaz and, of course, Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian set up both of Díaz’s goals and then scored Liverpool’s third, becoming the first player in Premier League history to record three goal involvements away to United more than once.

But while Salah and Díaz were the stars of the show, it was a noteworthy victory for Virgil van Dijk, who also played a key role in the win as he has in so many others since moving to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018.

The game was Van Dijk’s 200th Premier League appearance for Liverpool, and the win was his 140th (D39 L21). No Reds player has ever recorded as many victories in their first 200 games in the competition.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given their form in recent years, the top five for Liverpool for most wins in their first 200 Premier League games is made up entirely of current players. Van Dijk leads with 140, ahead of Andy Robertson (136), Trent Alexander-Arnold (134), Alisson (132) and Mohamed Salah (132).

Most wins in first 200 PL games for Liverpool

It comes just a week after Van Dijk made his 100th Anfield appearance for Liverpool in the Premier League. He has won 82 and lost just two of those (D16), with only Patrice Evra with Man Utd (263) picking up more points in his first 100 home games with a side in the competition.

Van Dijk doesn’t have the most wins of any player in their first 200 Premier League games, though. Seven players have won more, with Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva leading the way with a mighty 153 wins in his first 200 games in the competition.

The other six players ahead of Van Dijk are Ederson (151 wins for Man City), Kyle Walker (147 wins in 197 games for Man City), Nemanja Vidic (144 wins for Man Utd), Ilkay Gündogan (144 wins in 189 games for Man City), Evra and Michael Carrick (both 142 wins for Man Utd).

Now that he’s back in England, Gündogan could overtake his City teammate, having won 144 of his 189 Premier League games, meaning if the former Barcelona midfielder wins 10 of his next 11 league outings, he will take top spot.

With 140 wins from 200 games, Van Dijk matches the records of Petr Cech (Chelsea), Didier Drogba (Chelsea), Wayne Rooney (Man Utd) and Fernandinho (Man City).
