Erik ten Hag’s men got back to winning ways at St Mary’s on Saturday. Re-live the action with the best facts, stats and Opta data in our Southampton vs Man Utd stats page.

Manchester United bounced back from their dismal defeat to Liverpool with an ultimately comfortable 3-0 win away to Southampton on Saturday after their hosts missed a penalty.

Cameron Archer saw a 33rd-minute spot-kick saved by André Onana, and the Saints forward’s header on the rebound proved to be their last shot of the game despite having roughly an hour to play.

It proved to be a turning point for United, who had otherwise underwhelmed prior to Diogo Dalot’s clumsy tackle on Tyler Dibling. Two minutes and 31 seconds after Onana’s save, Matthijs de Ligt headed in his first Premier League goal.

Marcus Rashford ended a Premier League goal drought that stretched back to early March with a precise finish from just outside the box in the lead up to half-time, and Saints never looked like recovering.

Jack Stephens’ second-half red card for a wild lunge on Alejandro Garnacho was a mere foot note, and the Argentina international emphatically rounded off the win for United in stoppage time.

Southampton have lost all four league matches this season, while Ben Brereton Díaz broke the record for most Premier League appearances without ever winning, a run that stretched to 18 (four at Southampton, 14 at Sheffield United).
