Jhon Durán came off the bench to score a superb winner from over 30 yards out as Aston Villa stunned Bayern Munich with a 1-0 win at Villa Park on Wednesday.

The single-goal victory brought back memories of the 1982 European Cup final, when Villa beat Bayern by the same scoreline in Rotterdam.

A high-octane game here finally had its goal when Durán lobbed the ball over Manuel Neuer from distance, much to the jubilation of the loud home fans.

Bayern had the majority of the ball and chances, but were unable to break down a resolute Villa side, with captain Emiliano Martínez making excellent saves from Harry Kane and Michael Olise among others.
