Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.

Alabama State linebacker Treqwan Thomas and the South Carolina State Bulldogs were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 2 this past weekend.

Treqwan Thomas, Alabama State, DE, R-Jr., 6-1, 232, Orlando

Thomas forced a fumble on each of his career-high three sacks and helped Alabama State limit Miles to a field goal in a 24-3 victory. The All-SWAC edge rusher finished with six tackles as well as 14 yards in losses. One of the fumbles was recovered by a teammate.

HBCU+ FCS National Team of the Week

South Carolina State (23-20 win at The Citadel)

First-year coach Chennis Berry earned his first win as the Bulldogs captured an instate matchup on the road. The MEAC squad’s offensive line paved the way for 26 first downs and over 36 minutes of possession, with Deondra Duehart rushing for 128 yards, Josh Shaw scoring on two short runs, and quarterback Eric Phoenix gaining 235 yards of total offense and a touchdown pass.
