Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.

Bethune-Cookman’s Darnell Deas and the Jackson State Tigers were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 3 this past weekend.

HBCU+ is the popular streaming platform of Urban Edge Network, offering 24/7 access to live and on-demand HBCU sports events, original sports shows, curated films, podcasts and more.

HBCU+ FCS National Player of the Week

Darnell Deas, Bethune-Cookman, KR/RB, Sr., 5-10, 190, Pompano Beach, Florida

Deas scored on 95- and 98-yard kickoff returns in the Wildcats’ 59-31 loss at Western Michigan. The touchdowns occurred on the Wildcats’ final touch of the first half and the opening kickoff of the second half. Finishing with 225 yards on four returns, he’s up to six kickoff return TDs in his 35-game career, one shy of the FCS record.

HBCU+ FCS National Team of the Week

Jackson State (33-15 win over Southern)

The Tigers scored the first 23 points as 32,027 watched them win for the fifth straight time in the “Boombox Classic.” The SWAC squad enjoyed a balanced effort against rival Southern, including Irv Mulligan with 51 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Day Day Bright (eight solo tackles) and Joshua Nobles (six tackles, 2.5 sacks) anchoring the defense.

Honorable Mention: Hampton (37-7 win over Norfolk State)
