David Moyes’ side sealed a second successive league win over Man Utd thanks to two second half goals. We bring you the need-to-know facts from today’s Premier League match at London Stadium with our West Ham vs Manchester United stats page.

David Moyes piled on the pressure for Erik ten Hag, as he orchestrated a second successive West Ham win over his former side Manchester United.

West Ham showed why they are above Man Utd in the Premier League table as we head into Xmas, as they found another gear to shift into within the final third of the game – a gear that produced two goals and won them the match.

Moyes’ side have had Jarrod Bowen to thank on many occasions this season, and it was the case again today. He’s now hit 11 Premier League goals for the Hammers this season, which the joint-most by a West Ham player before Christmas in a season in the competition, alongside John Hartson in 1997-98.

Bowen scored the opening goal in the 72nd minute at the second attempt, bundling the ball into the net after seeing his first shot saved by André Onana a second earlier. Bowen’s failure to convert the original shot meant that Lucas Paquetá was cruelly robbed of an assist for one of the passes of the season, but the Brazilian would get his assist for the day just over six minutes later. After Kobbie Mainoo took his eye off the ball and let it slip under his foot, Paquetá picked it up, played in Mohammed Kudus and the Ghanaian slotted the ball into the net past Onana.

Kudus, who played more often under ten Hag than any other manager during his time at Ajax (42), scored his ninth Premier League goal at London Stadium this season – only Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (11) has more in home games within the competition this season.

Everything Kudus and Bowen have been able to do in the Premier League this season, Manchester United’s summer signing Rasmus Højlund hasn’t. His failure to score again today means that he’s now played 10 hours and 45 minutes of Premier League football this season and has only been able to attempt seven shots on target – one every game and a half on average. His, and United’s, lack of goal threat has been a major talking point this season.

Their attacking stats are worrying. With just 18 goals in 18 matches so far this season, it’s the fewest that they have scored in a Premier League campaign at this stage, beating the previous record low of 20 in 1992-93. They have failed to score in seven different Premier League matches this season – at the time of writing, no team have done this more often in 2023-24. Today also meant that they have failed to score in four successive matches across all competitions – their worst run since November 1992.

It doesn’t get much easier for Man United, with them facing high-flying Aston Villa on Boxing Day and another defeat might mean that Father Christmas won’t be the only man dealing with the sack over this festive period.
