Unfortunately, the nearest he has come to emulating either in the past 30 years has come via a game console. If he were to be compared to any ’90s icon, it would probably be Statto, but don’t bother asking him for any tips on the 3:30 at Kempton. In recent years Andy has been using advanced metrics to write about the underlying performance of players and teams across leading European leagues, as well as making the odd foray into cricket. As part of The Analyst, he will continue to apply data to shine a light on football’s leading protagonists, as well as championing those players under the radar, which he will probably do by highlighting their performance on a radar.
