Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.

Norfolk State’s Jacquez Jones and the Hampton Pirates were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 4 this past weekend.

HBCU+ is the popular streaming platform of Urban Edge Network LLC, offering 24/7 access to live and on-demand HBCU sports events, original sports shows, curated films, podcasts and more.

HBCU+ National Player of the Week

Jacquez Jones, Norfolk State, WR, Grad, 5-10, 175, Orlando, Florida

The former two-way player at Lane College had his hands all over his MEAC squad’s 32-10 victory at VMI. He caught 12 passes for 143 yards, including two first-half touchdowns from quarterback Jalen Daniels. Jones matched the second-most receptions in an FCS game this season.

HBCU+ National Team of the Week

Hampton (27-20 win over Howard)

The Pirates from CAA Football won their 100th meeting with rival Howard, and for the eighth straight time in the “Battle of the Real HU.” With the game tied 14-14 late in the third quarter, Ja’Quan Snipes scored on a 53-yard run. He then extended the lead with a 5-yard TD run in the fourth. Defensive back Xavier Marshall and linebacker Corey Yeoman had eight and seven solo tackles, respectively.

Honorable Mention: Grambling State (41-20 win over Jackson State); North Carolina Central (66-24 win over North Carolina A&T)
