Manchester City enjoyed a routine 3-1 win over West Ham on Saturday. Victory handed Pep Guardiola yet another Premier League record.

Pep Guardiola is no stranger to setting records. His all-conquering Manchester City side became the first men’s team to win four consecutive Premier League titles last year, and they are favourites to extend that record to five in 2024-25.

And with his side’s 3-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday evening, the Spaniard set yet another record, this time a personal one. Guardiola made it a record 17 Premier League games against the Hammers without defeat, with an eighth Premier League hat-trick from Erling Haaland guiding them to another three points.

West Ham 1-3 Man City stats

Victory means that Guardiola has gone more Premier League games unbeaten against West Ham than any other manager has played against a specific team without losing.

Guardiola has won 15 of those games and drawn the other two, amassing a remarkable 47 points from a possible 51. David Moyes (D2) is the only West Ham manager to take points off Guardiola’s City, with Manuel Pellegrini (L3), Slaven Bilic (L2) and now Julen Lopetegui (L1) losing all of their games to him.

Most games unbeaten vs specific club

Prior to this win, Guardiola had jointly held the record for the most unbeaten games against a single opponent, sharing that honour with former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who oversaw 16 matches against Charlton Athletic without losing once.

Unsurprisingly, Guardiola and Ferguson dominate the list of undefeated managers versus a single opponent. The legendary Scot enjoyed 14-game unbeaten records against West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City, while he also managed 12 games against Queens Park Rangers without defeat.

Arsène Wenger (14 games vs Portsmouth), Mauricio Pochettino (11 games vs Swansea) and José Mourinho (11 games vs Burnley) make up the top 10, each appearing once.

Guardiola is the only manager still active in the Premier League on this list, and there’s every chance he can continue to improve his numbers. West Ham still have to visit the Etihad this season, while Pep has a 100% record against Bournemouth (winning all 12 of his games against them).

He also has unbeaten records (min 5+ games) against Watford (P10 W10), Fulham (P8 W8), Sheffield United (P6 W6) and West Brom (P6 W5 D1) but unless he signs on for another season – which doesn’t seem certain at the moment – his records against those clubs won’t threaten the top 10.
