Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.

Hampton’s Malcolm Mays and the North Carolina Central Eagles were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 6 this past weekend.

HBCU+ is the popular streaming platform of Urban Edge Network, offering 24/7 access to live and on-demand HBCU sports events, original sports shows, curated films, podcasts and more.

Malcolm Mays, Hampton, QB, R-Sr., 6-5, 195, Arlington, Texas

Mays came off the bench for a career performance in Hampton’s 46-44 double-overtime loss to No. 20 Rhode Island in CAA Football. He completed 24 of 28 passes (85.7%) for 253 yards and four touchdowns, adding one more TD on the ground. He finished with a 208.8 pass efficiency rating and a career-high 290 yards of total offense.

HBCU+ FCS National Team of the Week

North Carolina Central (45-14 win at Campbell)

Three was the optimum number as the Eagles (4-2) notched their third straight win behind the combination of offense, defense and special teams. The MEAC squad erupted for 28 points in the second quarter, including two of quarterback Walker Harris’ three total touchdowns and Darryl Taylor’s 68-yard punt return for a score. The defense forced three turnovers in the second half, and D-tackle Quantez Mansfield had 3.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks among his six stops.

Honorable Mention: Florida A&M (28-13 win at Alabama State); Tennessee State (24-20 win at Lindenwood)
