Christopher Nkunku got the late winner at the end of a scrappy but entertaining game on the south coast. Re-live the action with the best facts and Opta data in our Bournemouth vs Chelsea stats page.

Christopher Nkunku scored an 86th-minute winner as Chelsea beat Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium on a night that saw a record-breaking number of yellow cards dished out.

Bournemouth should have found themselves in front in the first half, but new signing Evanilson saw his penalty saved by Robert Sánchez, and Chelsea made the most of that let-off in the second period.

Nkunku netted the winner late on, doing brilliantly to find the bottom-right corner after a clever turn having received an incisive pass from debutant Jadon Sancho.

England international Sancho looked sharp off the bench in the second half and recorded his first assist in the Premier League since May 2023 playing for Manchester United against Chelsea.

The match was in some ways overshadowed by indiscipline, however. While not an especially dirty match, referee Anthony Taylor showed 14 yellow cards (not including those dished out to coaching staff), many for dissent, setting a new Premier League record in the process.
