Stats Perform is bringing a greater spotlight to athletes, students and stories at Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a partnership with Urban Edge Network. Included in the 2024 college football season are both HBCU FCS Player and Team of the Week honors and a season-ending HBCU FCS National Player of the Year Award, each presented by HBCU+.

Alcorn State’s Edwin Summerour Jr. and the Prairie View A&M Panthers were selected Monday as the HBCU+ National Player and Team of the Week, respectively, for FCS college football games in Week 5 this past weekend.

HBCU+ is the popular streaming platform of Urban Edge Network, offering 24/7 access to live and on-demand HBCU sports events, original sports shows, curated films, podcasts and more.

Edwin Summerour Jr., Alcorn State, DB, R-Sr., 5-11, 180, Atlanta

An interception against McNeese a week earlier preceded Summerour grabbing three more picks – two of which Alcorn State turned into touchdown drives – in a 42-21 victory at Mississippi Valley State in the SWAC. He totaled 17 yards in returns and had another pass breakup and four tackles, including a pair on special teams.

HBCU+ FCS National Team of the Week

Prairie View A&M (36-34 5-OT win over Grambling State)

The defending SWAC West Division champion captured the State Fair Classic in the longest FCS game since 2022 as 52,323 looked on at Cotton Bowl Stadium. Running back Lamagea McDowell powered into the Grambling end zone for two points to cap the fifth overtime. Ayden Jones and Robert Edmonson had 12 and nine tackles, respectively, as the Panthers (3-3) ended GSU’s three-game winning streak.

Honorable Mention: North Carolina Central (37-10 win over Norfolk State)
