The Southwestern Athletic Conference will reach a milestone on Saturday when it holds a championship game for the 25th time – a rematch from Florida A&M’s blowout win over Prairie View A&M during the regular season.

Here is a preview capsule of the matchup:

SWAC Championship Game: Prairie View A&M (6-5) at Florida A&M (10-1)

Kickoff – 4 p.m. ET at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee, Florida (ESPN2)

Last Meeting – Florida A&M won 45-7 at home on Oct. 28

Coaches – Prairie View A&M: Bubba McDowell (12-10, two seasons); Florida A&M: Willie Simmons (43-13, fifth season; 64-24 overall)

3 Players to Watch – Prairie View A&M: QB Trazon Connley (127 of 229, 1,972 yards, 9 TDs, 9 INTs; 182 rush yards, 4 TDs), DE Derrick Ray Jr. (38 tackles, 10 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 blocked kick), LB Keyshawn Johnson (79 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 QB hurries); Florida A&M: QB Jeremy Moussa (182 of 317, 2,416 yards, 18 TDs, 8 INTs), LB Isaiah Major (94 tackles, 11.5 TFL, INT, fumble recovery, 5 QB hurries), DE Anthony Dunn Jr. (40 tackles, 11 TFL, 8 sacks, 8 QB hurries)

Notable – Simmons, 43, was Prairie View’s head coach from 2015-17, going 21-11 overall and 19-6 in the SWAC, with McDowell, 57, working on his staff as the defensive back coach. In FAMU’s win over the Panthers during the regular season, Moussa passed for 272 yards as well as touchdowns to three different receivers, and cornerback Tevin Griffey (Ken Griffey Jr.’s younger son) had a late pick-six as one of three interceptions by the Rattlers. The East Division champions, 22-2 in the SWAC since moving over from the MEAC in 2021 and making their first conference championship game appearance, are allowing just 266.6 yards and 14.3 points per game, ranking behind only South Dakota State in the FCS. The Rattlers are excellent with spreading out the offensive touches – no player has reached 100 rushing or receiving yards in a game. Connley will face a FAMU pass rush that has 34 sacks, but Prairie View thinks run first with Ahmad Antoine (496 rushing yards), Caleb Johnson (348) and Jamarious Brooks (298). The West Division champions are 6-0 when scoring over 20 points, but 0-5 from that mark and below. This is the Panthers’ third appearance in the SWAC title game, beating Alabama A&M 30-24 in 2009 and falling to Jackson State 27-10 in 2021.

Up Next – The winner will advance to face MEAC champion Howard (6-5) in the eighth Celebration Bowl on Dec. 16 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. None of the programs in the mix has ever participated in the season-ending bowl game.

Prediction – Florida A&M 35, Prairie View A&M 16
