Our Watchability Index: The Model That Rates Each Game’s Entertainment Value
Every week, every game gets a rating.
It’s a watchability index we’ve developed using a model that incorporates team efficiency data – like the projected score to determine the game’s probability of being competitive, and adds elements like total points projected to be scored in the game and team ratings.
The team rating data includes updated depth charts for every team, player ratings aggregated up to unit ratings, and then unit ratings aggregated up to team ratings. If a player is ruled out, the depth charts are updated and the team rating is adjusted.
The index takes all that information to produce a value of watchability. It judges how entertaining – or boring – each game will be on a 1-10 scale using this model of predictive metrics.
Essentially, the index takes some randomness out of choosing which game to view, making for less channel-flipping while relaxing at home or fewer maneuvers through a bar crowd to place yourself nearest the television broadcasting a certain contest.
It seems the watchability index does all the pre-game work, so you can concentrate on the in-game food and drink.
